Christmas 2023 at St Peter's

Here are details of our Christmas Services. Many of the services are also available on Zoom (you will need to install Zoom first, and you will be able to talk with others on the Zoom call), and on Live stream. The Live stream does not need any software installing first. It does not use your microphone or camera. Click the links above the join Zoom or the Live Stream.

Sun 17th Dec

  • 10am - Children’s Nativity. A great chance for us all to join in the nativity together. It’s your chance to be Mary, an
angel, even the donkey or a wise man in this version that involves the whole congregation. Many of our children dress up to join in – you’re welcome to dress up too. So dust off the angel wings, or a put a tea towel on your head and join in the fun.
This service will be available remotely on Zoom.

  • 7pm - Carols by Candlelight
Hear the familiar story and join in the well loved carols to draw you closer to the story that changed the world, and continues to impact lives across the world today. All the words are on our screens, so you won’t need a torch – unless it’s to find you way along the church path! Due to the candle light, the service is not available on Zoom or Live stream.
Our retiring collection from this service will go to the work of Christmas Lunch on Jesus who provide Christmas lunches for struggling families across the city. You can give using Cash or Card.

Sun 24th Dec - Christmas Eve

  • There is no 10am service on 24th December.

  • 3pm and 5pm Christingle. This is usually the busiest service of the year - hence we do it twice. Once again you will make your own Christingle in the pew and join with other families in the countdown to Christmas Day. If you need gelatine free sweets, please let us know as we will have a limited number available. We will have a Christingle recycling box where you can leave your orange to be made into marmalade (or you can take a bag yourself to make your own at home). Our retiring collection will go to the work of The Children’s Society. Cash or card (we have  a zappy machine, though that might take a little longer). This service will not be available on Zoom or Livestream to safeguard the privacy of our young people and visitors.

  • 11.15pm Midnight Holy Communion.  A spoken service with a few simple carols. It’s timed so that we celebrate and receive Holy Communion as the clock slips over into Christmas Day. Always a special service, you are very welcome to join us. Not available on Zoom/Livestream.

Mon 25 Dec - Christmas Day

  • 8am Holy Communion. A simple spoken service for those who have family commitments later in the day but still need to come to worship and to participate in Holy Communion on this special day. If you are visiting the area, you are especially welcome. Not available on Zoom/Livestream.

  • 10am All Age Communion. Bring along your favourite present to show off and share with the congregation – all ages are very welcome as we celebrate the birth of Jesus together. It is our custom that those who are not yet confirmed to receive prayers at the rail, and a small bag of cut grapes. We acknowledge that Christmas is also difficult for those who are grieving, if you are in need of prayer, please do let us know and it will be a privilege to share with you. Available on Zoom and Livestream.

Sun 31 Dec 2022

  • 10am Sunday Service. This is our usual Sunday morning worship service. Available on Zoom and Livestream.
